4.2–4.6kW split system installed cost in Perth
$2,380 – $3,145 inc GST, supply & installed
The spread of the actual listed prices for every unit we install at this size, on a standard back-to-back install — value options at the bottom of the range, premium at the top. Every live price is in the table below.
The in-between size most people don't know exists: 4.2 to 4.6kW sits between the ubiquitous 3.5kW and the 5kW living-room standard, and it's often the honest answer for a large bedroom, a theatre room or a mid-size living area of 27–31 m². Buying a 3.5kW 'because it's on special' for a room this size is the classic undersizing mistake — this is the size that room actually wants.

What moves the price inside $2,380 – $3,145
The bottom of the range is a standard back-to-back install, which includes:
- The indoor head and outdoor unit, mounted, levelled, and secured
- Up to 3 metres of insulated refrigerant pipework in neat trunking
- The electrical work: a new dedicated circuit to the switchboard (2–3.5kW units and replacements connect to a suitable existing circuit), with an isolating switch at the outdoor unit
- Condensate drain run to ground level
- Standard outdoor mounting (blocks at ground level, or a wall bracket where specified)
- Vacuum, pressure test, and refrigerant charge to the manufacturer's spec
- Full run test, commissioning, remote demo, and the compliance paperwork
Long pipe runs, two-storey mounting, awkward access and brand tier lift it from there, plus the dedicated circuit every unit over 3.5kW needs. The full anatomy — with worked examples — is in our Perth split system cost guide, or try the cost calculator for your setup.
4.2–4.6kW split systems — common questions
How much does a 4.2–4.6kW split system cost installed in Perth?
$2,380 – $3,145 supply and installed (inc GST) for a premium-brand unit on a standard back-to-back install. The bottom of that range is an easy wall and a mid-tier premium unit; the top is a flagship unit or a more involved install. Our value-tier option (Midea Athena) comes in under it, and large-capacity units above it — the exact live prices for every unit are on this page, and every quote is fixed before work starts.
What size room does a 4.2–4.6kW split system suit?
27 to 31 m² — large bedroom, medium living room. Insulation, ceiling height and window orientation shift the answer at the margins, which is why we confirm sizing at a free quote rather than guessing from floor area alone.
Does a 4.2–4.6kW split system need a dedicated circuit?
Yes — anything above 3.5kW needs its own circuit from the switchboard, and an older board can need work to take one. We're dual-licensed, so the circuit and any switchboard work are quoted and done by the same team on the same day.

See all reviews“Excellent Air Conditioning Installation Service! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When looking to install 2 new aircons at my house, I was recommended to use Otter Air & Electrical and I couldn't be happier with the service provided by Matt and his assistant. From the initial enquiry through to the completion of the installation, the entire experience was seamless, professional and efficient. Matt responded promptly to emails, arrived exactly on time as scheduled, highly professional and the whole experience was stress-free. On the quote, he provided a few options with breakdown details of what is included in the price and makes it easier to make the decision. On the day of installation, the process was completed on schedule and I'm very happy with the quality of the work. They took great care to keep the work area clean and tidy throughout the job, and once finished, they thoroughly cleaned up, leaving everything spotless. Thank you very much, Matt and team and I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a reliable, professional and efficient aircon company.”
