Midea systems show their fault code directly in the indoor unit's display window — no button sequence needed. Midea has used two code generations: the older E/P/F codes and the newer EH/EL/EC/PC system, and both are covered below, along with the status codes (defrost, self-clean, Wi-Fi pairing) that look alarming but aren't faults at all.
How to find your Midea fault code
Wall splits — the code shows on the unit itself
- 1 No button sequence needed: the code appears in the indoor unit's display window (where the set temperature normally shows), either steadily or alternating with the temperature.
- 2 Codes start with E, P, F, or in the newer system EH / EL / EC / PC.
- 3 Midea's own advice: wait about 10 minutes (many protection codes self-clear), then switch off at the breaker, restore power and restart.
- 4 If the code comes back, note it down and book a technician rather than repeatedly resetting.
Units without a display — count the lamps
- 1 Count the Operation/Running lamp flashes in one burst, then look at what the Timer lamp is doing — it selects the code family.
- 2 Timer lamp OFF = an E/EH/EL/EC-type error (2 flashes = communication error, 6 = indoor sensors, 8 = refrigerant leak detection, 12 = outdoor fan).
- 3 Timer lamp ON = an older-style F-code (1 flash = overcurrent, 6 = outdoor fan).
- 4 Timer lamp FLASHING = a P/PC protection code (1 = overcurrent, 2 = voltage, 3 = overheat/pressure, 7 = IPM).
Ducted systems & outdoor units
- 1 Ducted and any unit on a KJR-series wired controller show the code directly on the controller screen, using the same table as wall splits.
- 2 Multi-split outdoor units have their own display showing codes plus status readouts (dF = defrosting, PH = pre-heat, LP = low ambient) — those status codes are not faults.
- 3 Single-split outdoor units signal via LED combinations on the board behind the service cover — technician territory.

Where does my Midea show its fault code?
In the display window on the indoor unit — the same window that shows the set temperature. The code either sits there steadily or alternates with the temperature. Units without a display signal via the Operation and Timer lamps instead; the flash-counting method is above the tables.
My Midea shows dF / CL / FP — is something wrong?
No. Those are status readouts, not faults: dF means the outdoor unit is defrosting (normal in cold-weather heating), CL is a filter-clean reminder, and FP means frost-protection heating is holding the room at about 8°C. They're listed in the status section on this page so you can stop worrying about them.
Why do the same codes mean different things on my outdoor unit?
Because Midea's indoor and outdoor displays use overlapping code letters for different faults — P1, P3 and P5 in particular mean one thing on the indoor display and something else on the outdoor one. Our tables note which display each meaning belongs to.
What are the EH, EL and EC codes?
They're Midea's newer code system, used on current ranges like Xtreme Save. The letter after E tells you where: H = indoor side, L = other/system, C = outdoor side. Old codes map across (E0 → EH 00, E1 → EL 01, F4 → EC 51), and both generations are in the tables here.
